Cole Davis

Associate
Cole Davis is an associate at Sterlington, focusing on M&A, private equity, securities law, and intellectual property transactions. He also advises on general corporate matters and has experience with emerging companies and venture capital (ECVC) transactions. He has advised a broad range of clients, from startups and emerging growth companies to multinational corporations, in structuring complex business transactions, negotiating technology and commercial agreements, and navigating regulatory compliance.

Before joining Sterlington, Cole practiced at Baker Botts and Wilson Elser, where he advised clients on M&A, early-stage investments, and intellectual property strategy. His work included drafting complex commercial agreements, negotiating licensing deals, and counseling media and entertainment clients on corporate transactions.

Cole’s practice also spans technology and entertainment law, with a focus on rights management, digital identity, and legal technology. He has advised artists, record labels, publishers, film studios, and tech platforms on licensing, content protection, and corporate structuring. As the founder of a legal technology company and an inventor on multiple patents related to legal contracts, machine learning, and digital identity, he brings a unique perspective at the intersection of law, technology, and business. His diverse background in music, banking, and entrepreneurship allows him to approach legal challenges with a holistic, strategic mindset, helping clients navigate complex issues with foresight and adaptability.

Cole earned his JD from SMU Dedman School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude as salutatorian and served as Lead Articles Editor for the SMU Law Review. He also holds a BBA in finance from Texas Christian University, graduating magna cum laude.
