Jamil French

Partner, Investment Management and Regulatory Practice

Jamil French is a securities partner in Sterlington’s Investment Management and Regulatory practice with a particular focus on private investment funds. His clients include sponsors of hedge, credit, private equity, venture capital, real estate and digital asset funds looking to launch or grow a fund advisory business.

Jamil began his legal career at Simpson Thacher and then at Seward & Kissel. He held in house roles as Director and Senior Counsel at Pershing, a BNY Mellon company with almost $2 trillion in AUM and as Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Sandell Asset Management, a mid-sized multi-strategy hedge fund manager . Prior to Sterlington, Jamil was also a partner at FisherBroyles.

Jamil has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a A.B. cum laude from Princeton University. Institutional Investor Magazine named him a 2018 Hedge Fund Rising Star and The Minority Corporate Counsel Association named him a 2015 Rising Star. He is a former Chairman of the Hedge Fund Association’s Family Offices Subcommittee and holds Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.
